Q. Why are most of your candles white?
Our candles are mostly white in order to maintain the purity of our candles.  Dye blocks are often
made with paraffin wax and liquid dyes do not disclose their ingredients, therefore we choose to add
them to just a few of our candles in order to enhance their decorative properties. If you would like to
special order dyed candles please call us at 443-980-9804.

Q. How long will my candles burn?
Candle burn times are tested by burning candles in 3-hour increments and the figures below indicate the minimum number of hours you can expect your candle to burn for.  Customers have reported significantly longer burn times, but we prefer to be modest here:

Tealights - 3 hours per tealight

4 oz Metal Tins or Jars - 25 hours

8 oz Square Mason Jars - 30 to 50 hours

10 oz Apothecary Jars - 25 to 30 hours

16 oz Square Mason Jar - 60 hours

Large Decorative Coffee Mug - 60 hours

16 oz Apothecary Jar - 75 hours

26 oz Apothecary Jar - 100 hours

16 oz Massage Candles - varies by use

Q. After a few uses my candle wick started to mushroom and smoke.
What happened?

After the first burn, and before each subsequent use, be sure to trim the wick down to approx. 1/4" in length.  If you don't have a wick trimmer it is easy to take a tissue and simply break off the top of the burned wick, being sure to leave enough length to light it again.  If this doesn't work please call us at 443-980-9804. And remember, only trim a wick when the flame is extinguished and candle has cooled.

Q. Is there anything special I should do when burning a candle?

Whenever you burn a candle you want to follow these IMPORTANT CANDLE SAFETY GUIDELINES -
Failure to follow these instructions can result in burn, fire, injury, and/or property damage.  NEVER leave a burning candle unattended.  Keep wick trimmed to 1/4" and never throw objects (incl. matches) into candle or wax pool.  Discontinue use when 1/2" of wax remains.  Avoid drafts.  Keep away from children, pets, and flammable objects.  Burn no more than 3 hours at a time. NEVER pour hot wax into toilets or down drains!  Wax will clog drains when it cools.

Q. I've heard that you can use soy wax on your skin, is this true?

While soy wax is a natural, plant-based wax, the formula we use in our regular candles is designed for home fragrance purposes only.  If you are interested in a candle for use on your skin, please check out our line of Massage Candles.  They are made with dermatologist-tested soy wax in addition to a special blend of aloe vera, sweet almond, avocado, and grapeseed oils  Their 3-in-1 design makes them perfect for use as a normal candle, massage candle, or lotion.

Q. What should I do with my old candle containers?

Most containers can be used again or recycled.  Once candle has burned down and 1/4" of wax remains, simply set oven to lowest setting (no higher than 160 degrees F), line cookie sheet or pie plate with paper towels, flip candle upside down on paper towels (lid removed) and place in oven for 15 minutes.  Keep an eye on the oven to avoid overheating and potential fires.  After time has passed, most of the wax should have drained down onto towels.  Carefully remove container from oven (protect hands as it WILL be hot), use clean paper towels to wipe away remaining wax and wick tab.  Wash glass containers or mugs in hot, soapy water.  Your container is ready for re-use or recycling.  Avoid using container again for candles, as flames from original candle may have weakened  the glass.  NOTE - Metal travel/massage tins should not be washed - they will rust (wipe them as clean as possible and use again for storage, but never for foods or liquids).  Get creative with your old containers.  They make great flower vases, cotton ball holders, etc.
